Inversion RPG
A downloadable game

In the time of myth when the elements ruled as gods, and Dwarves and Elves dared make war against them, a star fell from beyond the sky. It whispered a siren song of progress, and filled Human minds with visions of technology. Within a generation whisper tech allowed an empire to rule the stars. All the while, the whispers grew more powerful and Humanity more loyal to them.
Then all at once there was a grand collapse. Everywhere thrown into ruin and darkness as all knowledge and progress is lost.
Now this is the land of magic and machines. Elves and Dwarves and Robots and Holograms. Nobles and Sheriffs and Gunslingers and Wizards. Scattered towns clinging to ancient technology powered by devices no one truly understands. This is a land of monsters and mysteries, of unexplored wilderness, and of ancient wonders filled with treasures for the brave and foolish.
Inversion RPG is a tabletop role playing game with magic, guns, and lost technology. Set in a world of scavengers rebuilding on the ruins of the old world. It uses a D12 success based resolution system, and fully open skill based progression system.

The Setting
Long ago there was an ancient empire. It is the source of all the wonders, monsters, tech, and old world magic scattered across the land. All that’s left of them are ruins and secrets beyond comprehension.
The world now is a dangerous place, filled with monsters and threats both natural and ancient empire born, but it’s also filled with the miracles and legends of the past. Elevators to other stars sit idle in untouched forests. Magic rivers cut paths through skyscraper mountains. Valleys filled with broken gravity let kids fly like birds above overgrown ruins of the old world.
It's a fantasy world with magic and elves and fey creatures, but there's train tracks in the earth older than the oldest Dwarf, and the forest is full of hologram ghosts both friendly and hostile.
This game is about adventurers heading into haunted halls hunting down villains and treasures. It’s about scavengers rebuilding with what they can find from the old world. It's about people making their life just a little easier, and surviving just a little longer, with the help of the relics of the past.

Simple Core, Expansive Options
The core rules of the game, along with the rules for combat, are only 6 pages. The rest of the book are options, content, and examples to provide you with the tools you need to make your character unique.
The game lets you opt into more rules in the aspects of the game you want your character to focus on, and in the aspects you don't focus on, then what you have at the start of your adventures is what you'll have at the end.
Open Progression System
Inversion features a fully open progression system where everything in the game, from taking a hit to what weapons you can wield and what technology you can grasp, is all determined by the skills you invest in.
Your character can be a jack of all trades with abilities that help in any aspect of the game, or you can focus down and be the team's expert on a specific task. As much as possible, the game will not put invisible walls around your choices. Make the character you want to make, and make them the way you want them to work.
Success Resolution
Every Challenge in Inversion takes a set number of successes to overcome. The higher you roll the most successes you get, and success adds up until the challenge is overcome. Every character has a chance to contribute, and a skilled character will have a noticeable impact on difficult challenges.
Combat is also success based. How many successes you roll on an attack determines if you hit, the damage, and how powerful the special effects of the attack are.

Having played a few sessions now, what sticks out to me most is that everything in the book feels like it's meant to be there. The setting, the mechanics, the choices you can make, everything was placed with an eye to how it would work with everything else, and it gives the game a sense of coherence that you don't often see.
The other thing that sticks out is that you have so much freedom in character creation, but the game trusts you. At no point does it put up unnecessary guardrails or say "no, you can't do that," instead taking the approach of "there's no rule saying you can't."
10/10, download and play it.
I am the author and I think I did a pretty good job
Inversion is a shining example of commitment to a concept, with every aspect of the game thoughtfully designed to support its unique setting and ideas. The d12 success mechanic ensures that every choice in character creation is meaningful, with no option feeling wasted or suboptimal. Each mechanic feels fun and rewarding to use, and there’s an abundance of great options to explore.
This is easily one of the best indie TTRPGs I've come across, and I've read quite a few. It strikes a perfect balance between immersive storytelling and solid mechanics. Players who prefer lighter games won't feel overwhelmed by complex calculations, while those who enjoy more strategic depth will find plenty to engage with. It's a brilliantly designed game, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.
